The VMP75 out of the box worked well, menus worked everything worked properly.
I connected the VMP75 to my network so that I can view internet, netflix and my networked shared music, pictures and movie files which after some network configuration (Windows 7) I finally was able to use everything I bought the box for and it worked well we could look at pictures family videos and music files and I was happy until I started having issues with Netflix.
Internet worked great, youtube as well but Netflix all of a sudden locked up, saying that my queue was temporarily unavailable I did many things reboot box, network., cables..etc and then to eliminate netflix and or the box I deactivated the player in my netflix account. I called Netflix and they told me there werent any outages that would cause this, and gave me the up up down down left right left right up sequence to deactivate netflix from the VMP75 but to no avail, same issue. I was able to watch netflix on my pc on the same network. Viewsonics tech support was not very helpfull infact after the third e-mail/conversation they were still asking me to check cabling after I described my issue in great detail to include Google worked music worked and so on… finally they gave me an RMA to replace the box…still not back yet.
Functions:
All functions that I use worked well..Pictures, videos, netflix(until my issue) music with the exception of the BMG I could not seem to keep the BMG list as soon as I reboot or turn off the VMP75 i loose the list and I have to make it again…tedious.

I have been shopping for a small, inexpensive, easy to use device for watching HD and Netflix, with a remote for several months.
When this showed up on Amazon, and my liking of the ViewSonic brand, I couldn’t wait for it to be released! I’m happy to say, I’ve had it for over a week now and have been watching Netflix like I’ve never done before (I have it on my Wii… its’ “ok”). The user interface on this device is slick, fast and intuitive.
I took a chance and bought an external DVD/DVD-R player that only uses USB power to hopefully hook up to the device to play many things I have archived on DVD-R disks. It instantly recognized as a CD Drive and am currently watching my divx rips of C.S.I. that I made from my DVD’s of the sets I bought. Works PERFECTLY. Super fast, and even better quality than my old XBOX that was modded to use XBMC. No Power to hook up to the player! I can’t explain how excited I am. I bought the TOP Loading LITE-ON ETAU208-96.
I would HIGHLY reccomend this over ANY other player that is like this. The Network was a BREEZE to setup and navigate. YouTube is SO much fun to watch with other people over on my Big Screen TV. So much easier to share than having people standing behind you at your desk.
The *ONLY* gripe I have, is the lack of FLASH. I would LOVE to be able to play HULU on this thing. Kind of a bummer that I’m not able to. I hope they watch these threads and consider adding this somehow to the unit.
In the end, I’m actually saving up to get a 2nd one for my bedroom. Woop Woop!

Setup: setup of NexTV was very easy. Only took 10 minutes and that includes connecting wirelessy to a secure network.
Networking: I wasn’t able to see my shared folders on WinXP through this device but I was able to see a hard drive plugged into the “Share” Belkin router. Streaming video’s wirelessly from a hard drive was painfully slow. If you are looking to do something like that, I would skip NexTV.I ended up simply connecting my hard drive via USB cable to NexTV. The loading speed and navigation are much faster. Resume play only works if you do not shut down NexTV.
Netflix: I did not experience any issues with Netflix described by others, even though it is a bit slow while opening up Netflix and initial load of the movie, it works just fine during playback.
Youtube is totally useless. It launches in the browser but the font is soooo small that you can’t see anything on a 42′ TV. Plus using the remote to enter letters and numbers is a painful process. Once a video is selected and loaded, then it looks pretty good.
Overall: I planning to keep NexTV, as I think there is unfortunately nothing better out there. The market has not matured yet for these type of devices. For me the most important feature that I am able to play my own content and Netflix. It does the job even though I wish it was a bit faster.

I really, really wanted to like this gadget. ESATA, USB, HDMI and more. 1080p. Lots of features. What’s not to like?
But….
The Good…
- Streaming media from my home network was flawless. Video and audio – fantastic.
- Included batteries for the remote, and an HDMI cable.
- Small footprint.
- 1080p
The Bad…
- It’s slow. If you’re streaming audio, the menu’s are so sluggish as to be almost useless.
- Anything on the web is slow. No, I did not buy it for browsing the web, but if you’re going to include the feature, polish it up!
- Not intuitive. I have a lot of remotes and gadgets. This thing had me frustrated in five minutes.
The ugly…
- Tech support can’t help – they have to bump you up to the next level. That’s a 48 hour wait.
- The manual. It’s an HTML based mess you need to view on the TV (unless you visit their website and find a copy.) The text is so small (on any size HDTV) that you need to be two feet away to read it.
- Netflix support. Viewsonic can’t get it to work. After two hours of playing around, I found that “instant view” does not work, but the queue does. As long as you don’t need audio. Great picture. No sound. Not good.
If I hear back from tech support AND they solve the Netflix problem, I’ll up it one star.

I puchased this product for it’s iso playing abilities unfortunately due to defective workmanship none of the units Samba network shares features work. Do not buy this unit until they work out all the defects. Tech support has no clue as to what’s causing the problem and there is no immediate fix. People on AVSForum have a huge thread on just this issue. Lots of very unhappy peeps!
